How to tell Green Cheek Conure gender?

Craig Virani: You will need to have your bird DNA'd. I'm sure your vet can do this but as a previous post mentioned, avianbiotech is great! They send you a kit which consists of a little plastic ziptop baggie, all you do is pluck a few breast feathers, this does not harm your bird at all. There's also a blood test, but I prefer the feathers as it is less stressful on your little one! A lot of blood test will ask you to clip their nail too short so it will bleed, I'm not sure how they do it at the vet. Pulling breast feathers will not bleed and it is just like DNA-ing a human with hair follicles, same aspect. A lot of birds with bond with the opposite sex though not always so its not a way to tell the sex, as with singing. Female cockatiels don't have the same whistling/singing ability that males do but I'm not sure if it's the same in conures....Show more

Neville Dautremont: I have a pair of green check conure. thy lying 8 eggs but all are unfertile. what about gend! er of them? try again? or both are female?

Branden Roddick: dna testing isn't nearly that bad, u just order the kit online (it's 20 dollars) and they send u cards in the mail. It's on a special paper and what u do is have someone hold ur baby and u just barely quick a toenail so that u get a small drop of blood to put on the card. U let it dry and stick it in the mail and u get results in like less than 10 business days. After u clipper it's nail give it lots of treats and hold and fuss over it for an hour and it'll forget all about it. It's so quick and nuts and grapes (whatever ur's loses it's mind for) will make it's brain move on to the super special once in a lifetime food ur giving it. Short of this method, feather plucking (more tramatic than the toenail method) or surgery (which i'd never put mine though) this is the only way. If you really need to know i've just decided to live with calling mine a him. My nanday conure is suppose to live between 20-30 ! years, u can prolly google green cheeks and find articles on t! hem that tells life-span....Show more

Mark Villifana: Green cheek conures aren't sexually dimorphic, nor do males act any different from females, so your only option is to get DNA testing done. They are all quick procedures though. If you don't want to draw any blood whatsoever, there is another option through their feathers. It involves plucking a few (3-5) small chest feathers. The ends of these freshly picked feathers contains the certain DNA that can tell what sex the bird is. This procedure helps to reduce stress, eliminate unnecessary bleeding, and minimizes the chance of infection without compromising the accuracy and reliability of the results. If you want to get this procedure done, go to this website:http://www.avianbiotech.com/Index.htmThey are the company that does the feather sexing. On that page you can order your testing kit and soon find out the sex of your green cheek. As for age, they can live into their 20's, 30's, even 40's if taken proper care of.! The average life span though is under 20 years because most people have no idea how to properly care for their birds....Show more

Wilfredo Muldoon: There is simply no way to tell the gender of a Green Cheeked Conure. You cannot tell my their feathers (coloring, etc.), by their ceres, or their vent. If you want to find out if your bird is a boy or girl, you need to get DNA testing done. Ask the vet if he can pull a feather instead of using a needle. Either way, it won't hurt the bird. GCCs can live up to 40 years or more. Although most only live to aroung 15/20 because of inproper care. Hope I helped!, ~XenaP.S. Why did you get the bird if you don't even know how long they live?...Show more

Glynda Darrin: I can visually sex nearly any bird, There's something that iv'e noticed that birds do males and females.

Ervin Overbee: A clue to the bird's gender can be found by feeling the pelvic bones (hips) in the lower portion of its belly. With males, these bones ! are touching or nearly so in the middle of the belly. With females, the! two are further apart. This technique works best for experienced owners who know what to look for, or when there is a male and a female bird available to illustrate the difference.Conures can live for twenty-five to thirty years when well cared for. Because of owner neglect, however, their average lifespan is closer to fifteen years....Show more

Avis Brantner: Green Cheek Conure Gender

Toshia Metzker: This is not the best ways to tell but look at the feet. If it has pink feet it's likely to be a girl and black or gray feet it's likely to be a boy but the best way to do it is dna testing bird store ( they breed all of there birds) will do it for me for 30 hope I helped you ( btw they can live 10-25 years based off of the care
