I love poetry. Do you love poetry?

Carolin Southers: A poem, or so I've heard, is painting with words to color one's world.

Danyell Rowback: I love poetry because it communicates emotions.

Ellis Cellar: I love it. This is the final sentence from Sex Without Love by Sharon Olds which first showed me what poetry is capable of (it's a little long):they are like great runners: they know they are alonewith the road surface, the cold, the wind, the fit of their shoes, their over-all cardio-vascular healthâ€"just factors, like the partnerin the bed, and not the truth, which is thesingle body alone in the universeagainst its own best time.Edit: and yes as Cheese Whisperer says I may not be following directions...it's close though....Show more

Ramon Dahlheimer: i love it because it is an artistic way to tell a story in short form with power and emotion involved tho its short.

Vickie Clampett: It has the baby isndie talking to the mommy as it grows, nd the daddy leaves the mommy nd hits her nd! makes her cry nd then she gets an abortion because the dady left.

Neely Youngblut: Anyone know where I can find this poem? Need it for schoolThanks

Felicitas Phildor: I love poetry because it says more of what you pretend to write and says less of what you intend.

Lourie Mcroberts: He didn't get up and leave his friend, his friend got up and left his father. I think the sentences work this way:I [=the author] look out the window my friend is older than I am he [=author's friend] says [quote] and I told my father it was so and I got up and left him then you know though there was nowhere I had to go and nothing I had to do [unquote]

Lady Laflin: While I've never attached "Love" to anything inanimate, including poetry, it ismy strongest passion, as well as a part of my therapy.

Fermin Tara: the end refers to the friend leaving his father, because he couldn't be bothered to stay and talk to him, even though he had nothing else of any importance to! do. try and write it out with inverted commas included. My fri! end says "I was not a good son you understand" I say "yes I understand "he says "I did not go to see my parents very often you know" and I say "yes I know ""even when I was living in the same city" he says, "maybe I would go there once a month or maybe even less" I say, "oh yes". he says "the last time I went to see my father, I say the last time I saw my father" he says "the last time I saw my father, he was asking me about my life how I was making out and he went into the next room to get something to give me" "oh" I say, feeling again the cold of my fathers hand the last time. he says "and my father turned in the doorway and saw me look at my wristwatch and he said ""you know I would like you to stay and talk with me"" oh yes I say ""but if you are busy"" he said ""I don't want you to feel that you have to just because I'm here"" I say nothing he says"my father said ""maybe you have important work you are doing or maybe you should be seeing somebody I dont want to keep y! ou"" I look out the window my friend is older than I am. he says "and I told my father it was so and I got up and left him then. you know though there was nowhere I had to go and nothing I had to do"i've added a few punctuation marks too, and double speech marks when the father is talking within the conversation of the "friend".but - merwin deliberately left the punctuation out to add ambiguity, to merge the conversation of the friend, about his neglect of his father, with the narrator's own experience with his father.in fact, the "friend" is actually the narrator's older self.(my friend is older than i am)well, that's my interpretation, without looking anything up....Show more

Devon Kalberer: look it up on internet

Arlen Hamper: Because it's a beautiful piece of art that alters and toys with your emotions wether it be sad, joyful, melancholy, exuberant, or historical.

Norris Rosener: DaveGreat question, and I am glad you did not preface this that one had ! to be a learned of at least good poet to love poetry, cause I often fal! l into that category. Here is my one sentence answer:I love poetry because is has brought out a part of me I did not know existed---the artsy side, and it has allowed me to express myself through poetry in ways I never would have done before.Congrats________________________________________________...Show more

Providencia Jalbert: A library.

Gerardo Greist: Because when you write ityou know you have my eyesand when I respond, you knowyou have my hand.

Bud Espenshade: So I said "I love you" to Poetry, and she goes, "Uh, yeah." Never said that again, I'll tell ya.

Jackson Esmiol: I love poetry because it is by far the best thing you can do with words.

Norma Marsalis: The "friend" in the poem is actually the father speaking in third person about himself and his son.Its not until near the end that there is a hint to the real identity of the "friend"..."and I got up and left him then you know though there was nowhere I had to go and nothing I had to d! o ".This was described earlier in the poem, but it was made clear that it was his father he was leaving. Its in this statement he is leaving his "friend". The line between the "friend" and the father becomes unclear. The friend is the father.Try reading it again, and consider what I am saying.

Sol Allphin: I love poetry because poetry is what makes humans humans.

Coy Tapley: Sure I do especially when you set it to music.

Riley Migl: Poetry breaks the bondage of fear by allowing inhibition to take a back seat.

Chet Nozick: I like poetry it allows individual expression

Lahoma Beadell: Because chicks dig guys that pretend to be sensitivepoets.

Rona Espalin: I love poetry because it is by far, the highest form of pretentious crap known to me at the moment.

Serena Doak: This Site Might Help You.RE:Langston Hughes "Blessed Assurance"?Anyone know where I can find this poem? Need it for schoolThanks...Show more

Hilton Paiva: You shoul! d ask this in polls and surveys because most poets are incapable of fol! lowing simple instructions and that's why I love poetry.

Carmelina Enoch: Here's the link: http://www.pa56.org/ross/merwin.htmAnyway, so why did he got up and left his friend? Was he uncomfortable hearing the story? Did he feel bad because he kind of had to confront his own feelings (guilt feelings, perhaps?) about his relationship (or lack thereof) with his own father? Comments and interpretations, please!

Luke Creitz: I don't Love it...I like it a bunch...probably mostly because I admire the strength of good writing...the guts...the blood...the refusal to call a leaf a leaf when it is so much more
