requirements for teaching.?

Marita Stadick: In michigan, it is teaching certification in one or more endorsement areas. This can be accomplished in a 4 year education degree, or you can get a 4 year subject area degree and then go into a year-and-a-half to two year teaching program after.Whatever area you want to teach in (endorsement areas) has specific requirements in terms of subject classes and number of credits you must have in the teaching area. These are expected to be covered in either the 4 year education degree or the 4 year subject area degree. In addition to the teaching area classes mentioned above, you will have to take a series of classes related to teaching in general. Typically adolescent psychology, reading in the content area, technology in the classroom, a few methods classes in the subject you will be teaching, mulitculturalism, and dealing with special ed. needs or inclusive classrooms(many special ed students are placed in regular classes now, so all new teachers are taught ! how to teach special ed. students.) Included in this time, you also have to do student teaching, where you go to a classroom and do all aspects of teaching under a guiding teacher.Check your state's department of education for their specific requirements, as they can vary greatly between states....Show more
