What is it like commuting to NYC daily for work?

Antonette Shappy: EDIT- Thanks everyone! ;)

Bernie Cerra: I'm assuming you live in the Easton/Allentown area because that's probably the part of PA closest to NYC, and anything further west/south would be closer to Philly than NYC... I grew up in an area not too far from there, and I know a few people who did the commute from my town to NYC, but I can't imagine trying to do it without a car, and considering that you can't afford a car with your salary in your hometown, I really can't picture taking a bus all the way there from Easton being all that cost effective being as it's about 40 dollars a day (200/week) to commute via bus, and you'd have cab fare on top of that. PLUS whatever you would need to get to work from the train station in NYC (subway, cab, city bus, etc.). Anyway, it's a long drive there and back - you're paying for your cheaper real estate and taxes by spending more time in the car commuting. As someone who has done 55+ miles each way commuting, I w! ould say it's probably not worth it unless you're single and willing to have no life during the week. While you wouldn't have the stresses of driving in rush hour traffic, you would still have to deal with traffic delays, crowded busses, and other aggravations while paying a significant portion of your salary to do it....Show more

Joie Libutti: While public transport is available, it is very time consuming.I have a cousin who lives in Chicago and takes the train. Looking at the map, if she drove that distance by car in a city without heavy traffic, it would be maybe 10 min. The commute time and walking involved takes her 25-30 min.

Tom Romer: Depends on if you like to waste 2-4 hours of your day in traffic or on mass transportation.Me, I have better things to do with my time.

Aldo Decurtis: Well I've only experienced train and ferry from NJ, but it's not so horrible. Sure getting up early sucks but it's really not torturous

Lupe Sancen: how close a! re you to Philadelphia, or Trenton...?.what about some type of! telemarketing job...?.good luck.......Show more
